Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of the most beautiful places in
the world, is the oldest national park in Southeast
Europe and the largest national park in Croatia.
It was founded in 1949, and is situated in the mountainous karst
area of central Croatia, at the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The
waters flowing over the limestone and chalk have deposited travertine barriers,
creating natural dams which in turn have created a series of beautiful lakes (approximately
20 lakes), caves and waterfalls. These geological processes continue today. The
forests in the park are home to bears, wolves and many rare bird species.
In
1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The
protected area extends over 296.85 km2. Each year, more than
1,200,000 visitors are recorded.
Here are more pictures of this outstanding natural beauty.

My dear Andreia
I just have a comment....let's go there. It's amazingly beautiful. I had heard about the place from a friend who went there last Summer and he said it was really astonishing.
Thanks a lot.
