Hi everyone! Today I will tell you about one of the
world’s most recognisable buildings, the Sydney Opera House, an Australian
icon.
The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing
arts centre that attracts more than 8 million visitors each year. It’s easy to
see why... This is undoubtedly
a masterpiece of creative thinking, with a modern expressionist design and construction.
Though its name suggests a single venue, the project
comprises multiple performance venues, including a concert hall, numerous
theatres of various sizes and an open air performance area. The venues produce
and present a wide range of in-house productions and accommodate numerous
performing arts companies, including four key resident companies: Opera
Australia, The Australian Ballet, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney
Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to seeing concerts, opera and the ballet,
tourists can take a guided tour.
Designed by the renowned Danish architect Jorn Utzon,
the facility formally opened on 20 October 1973. So the Sydney Opera House has
turned 40, and the building's birthday was celebrated with a week of special
events, in order to describe four decades of history and magic.
The Sydney Opera House outside is so amazing that I
can barely imagine how it would be being inside. Its unique architecture takes my breath away.
Simply gorgeous. I really hope I can visit it in the future.
